Import STL File

Modeling:  ExchangeImport/ExportImport3D FilesSTL

Most of today’s CAD systems offer STL import/export options.

In case your CAD system does not support SAT or IGES export you might import structure data via the STL interface. Though STL data export/import is very common, STL data import can take some time and might lead to a very slow meshing process, because every triangle will be converted to an ACIS FACE.

If you have the choice between a high end data format like SAT / IGES and STL – choose the high end format, because further operations on the structure will be much faster.

Open

Opens the selected STL file, adds its data to your model and leaves the dialog box.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box without performing any further action.

Copy file to project

Use this option to copy the import file to the project folder. If you save your project to another destination the imported file is copied automatically. For more information see Copy_file_to_project.

Scale to current unit

Enables scaling of the imported model to the currently active unit. As the units of the import model are not defined in the import file you have to specify the units of the import model in the 'Import file units' drop down list.  If not activated no scaling occurs.

Import file units

In the drop down list you can specify the units of the import model. These controls are only active when the option 'Scale to current unit' is checked.
