Notes

1. There is no restriction on the relative magnitudes of R1 and R2. If R2 > R1, then for positive P, D > 0 , where D is the taper rate; conversely, if R2 < R1, then for positive P, D < 0.

2. Implemented as an electrical model only.

3. The exponential impedance tapered transmission line is electrically modeled by assuming the series impedance and shunt conductance per unit length:

where:

D is the taper rate
Z(0) =R+jwL
ω =2pf
f is the frequency
Y(0) = G+jwC, with
R series resistance per unit length at x=0,
L series inductance per unit length at x=0,
G shunt conductance per unit length at x=0,
C shunt capacitance per unit length at x=0.

4. The tapered line is a high-pass structure that has a cut-off frequency which, for a lossless line (R=0, G=0), is given by

, where:

IR ,

ZC(x)

P physical length,

up ,

ZC(x) characteristic impedance,
IR impedance ratio,
eR relative dielectric constant.

5. The input parameters for the electrical model are:

A Attenuation in dB per unit length.
