JEDEC (Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council)
A council which creates, approves, arbitrates, and
oversees industry standards for electronic devices. In programmable
logic, the term JEDEC refers to a textual file containing information
used to program a device. The file format is a JEDEC approved standard
and is commonly referred to as a JEDEC file.
Jitter
The jitter of a periodic signal is the delay between
the expected transition of the signal and the actual transition. Jitter
is a zero mean random variable. When worst case analysis is undertaken
the maximum value of this random variable is used.
Jitter Tolerance
Jitter tolerance is defined as the peak-to-peak amplitude
of sinusoidal jitter applied on the input that causes a predefined,
acceptable loss at the output. For example jitter applied to the input
of an OC-N equipment interface that causes an equivalent 1dB optical
power penalty.
Jitter Transfer
Jitter transfer is defined as the ratio of jitter
on the output of a device to the jitter applied on the input of the
device, versus frequency. Jitter transfer is important in applications
where the system is utilized in a loop-timed mode, where the recovered
clock is used as the source of the transmit clock.

Jumper
A small piece of wire used to link two tracks on a
circuit board.
