In the example a single coax cable without any additional reference conductor will be modeled. The model is simulated in time and frequency domain.
The structure allows for a single mode with a current flowing on the inner wire and return on the inner side of the shield. This mode is called ’Differential Mode’. Another mode with current flowing on the outer side of the shield does not occur because of the absence of an additional conductor allowing the necessary return current.
